Does snare Reso head matter?
With a thick resonant snare head, your snare will sound boxy, dark, and the snare wires will only respond when you beat the hell out of it. If you’re looking for this sound, then by all means go ahead and try it. For general purpose drumming though, it’s a bad idea to use a batter head on the snare side!

If you try to use a tom head on a bass drum, the wood hoop will sit over the the edge, and thus not create even tension, and could quite possibly warp the wood hoop.

They recommend always changing your drum heads before you start recording. Otherwise, if you’re just practicing and playing normally, you should find yourself replacing heads every six months or so. Six months isn’t a hard rule, and for some could be a risky amount of time to wait.
How tight should Tom heads be?
Tuneful Toms Don’t rush to tighten everything up with a drum key. From finger‑tight, use the key in quarter‑turns. Working your way clockwise around most modern drums should be fine. As with the other drums, the heads of each tom‑tom should be well seated before you start tuning.

Do you need Reso heads?
The simple answer is, no you dont need reso heads. If you like toms with tons of projection, a sharp attack and no sustain, then concert toms are for you.
