Since closing the site in March due to the pandemic, the Foundation has been hard at work implementing new measures and experiences to make sure all are safe while on property.
Why did Frank Lloyd build Taliesin?
Wright built Taliesin as a refuge from a romantic scandal. In 1909, Wright and Cheney abandoned their families to travel Europe for a year together. Upon their return, they were ostracized from Chicago society, so they moved back to Wisconsin and built Taliesin to start their lives anew.
What is special about Taliesin West?
Taliesin West is Frank Lloyd Wright’s desert laboratory in Arizona. Deeply connected to the desert from which it was forged, Taliesin West possesses an almost prehistoric grandeur. It was built and maintained almost entirely by Wright and his apprentices, making it among the most personal of the architect’s creations.
Why is it called Taliesin?
Taliesin was Frank Lloyd Wright’s estate in the hills of Wisconsin. Wright built Taliesin on his favorite boyhood hill in the Wisconsin River valley homesteaded by his Welsh grandparents and named it Taliesin in honor of the Welsh bard whose name means “Shining Brow.”
