What can be mistaken for herpes on face?
Herpes symptoms can be mistaken for many other things, including:
- A different STI which causes visible lesions, such as Syphilis or genital warts (HPV)
- Irritation caused by shaving.
- Ingrown hairs.
- Bacterial vaginosis (BV)
- Pimples.
- Yeast infections.
- Haemorrhoids.
- Bug bites.
Can herpes appear on face?
Facial herpes is very common and is also known as cold sores, fever blisters, sun blisters, oro-facial herpes, herpes labialis and herpes febrilis. Facial herpes is characterised by groups of fluid-filled blisters that appear on red swollen areas of the skin or on the mucous membranes.
Is herpes rash contagious?
It is very contagious. There are two types of this virus. One type (HSV-1) usually causes sores around the lips or inside the mouth that are sometimes called fever blisters or cold sores. The other type (HSV-2) usually causes sores on the genitals (private parts).

How long does a herpes rash last?
They tend to look like clusters of small, fluid filled blisters that become pustules. For a few days to a week, they will break open, ooze fluid, and form a crust before healing over. The rash typically lasts for around 7–10 days.
