The model changed in 2012, which may be causing some confusion, but it shouldn’t, as nearly all i30 engines, whether 2007-2012 or 2012-2017, use timing chains. The only exceptions are the older version’s 2.0-litre diesel and petrol engines, which use timing belts, but will be very rare in Ireland.
