Welcome to LAUSD Magnets! Currently, there are 330 Magnet programs located throughout LAUSD. All District students, including English learners, standard English learners, students with disabilities, and gifted/talented are encouraged to apply.
How do I get into the magnet program?
How are students accepted into Magnet programs? Students are selected based on the magnet program goal and are randomly accepted into magnet programs based on the number of priority points they accrue. The number of students selected is based on the number of available spaces at a particular school.
How do you get magnet points in LAUSD?
Applicants who remained on a valid on-time Magnet waiting list receive 4 points for the following year. Points may be accumulated for prior three consecutive years for a maximum of 12 points. Applicants whose resident school is designated as overcrowded by L.A. Unified criteria.

Advanced Learning Options Gifted Magnet Programs, coordinated by Student Integration Services, offer self-contained classes and place emphasis on developing higher-level thinking skills in a demanding academic program for students who are entering grades 1–12.

All points expire after three years. A caveat here: there is still an element of random selection applied to all students, even after their points have been collected and assessed. The more points your child has, the likelier it is that they will get into the magnet school of your dreams, but it is not a guarantee.
