The Zealand Trail is the access point to the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Zealand Hut as well as an entry/exit point along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. The relatively short and easy one-way 2.8-mile hike makes the trail great for families and/or people looking for a shorter day hike.
How do I get to Zealand Falls trailhead?
To find the trailhead, turn off Route 302 onto Zealand Road, and follow it to the end. Along the way, you’ll see the trailheads for Sugarloaf and the Hale Brook Trail. Continue to the end of the road, where a loop provides for some parking at the trailhead.
Is the Zealand Hut open?
Open for self-service from late fall through the end of May a caretaker is available from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The caretaker may light a fire in the main room after 4 p.m. Guests pack in their own food and have full use of the hut’s stove, oven, cookware, and service ware.

Is Zealand a 4000 footer?
It’s a low elevation 4,000 footer well-shielded by tree cover with a long walk-in and moderate climbing. There are also some spectacular views of Mt. Carrigan, Whitewall Mountain and the Presidentials from Zeacliff, and Zeacliff Pond, down a spur trail that I’ve walked past on previous trips but never explored.
