Is Waterloo Housing first come first serve?
This process is not first-come, first-served. All students who submit their Residence Community Ranking Form and housing deposit by the deadline, are guaranteed a space in one of our residences.
Will University of Waterloo open in the fall 2021?
The Faculty of Environment’s Fall 2021 commitments are twofold: We will ensure that all students are able to progress in their program of study regardless of whether they are able to move to Waterloo or decide to study remotely. We will provide students with the opportunity for as much on-campus learning as possible.

Yes. A few residence buildings are located off-campus in Waterloo. In Waterloo, our University Place is the furthest residence building from campus – approximately a five-minute walk to campus. In Brantford, all residence buildings are interwoven into our downtown campus.
Can you request a roommate at Waterloo?
Both Waterloo Residences and the University Colleges provide the opportunity to request a roommate. Keep in mind that both students need to include their desired roommate’s student ID number, so we know you both want to live together.

How do I cancel a residence at Waterloo?
How to withdraw or cancel your residence contract
- Submit the withdrawal/cancellation form and indicate a potential move out date and share why you are leaving residence.
- Move your belongings out of residence and return your keys to the front desk of your residence community.
Is there a refund for University of Waterloo Housing?
Undergraduate, exchange, and graduate students living in non-family housing including study permit holders who confirmed their contract prior to July 22 and decline the 2021-2022 University of Waterloo Campus Housing Vaccine Addendum will receive a $500 housing deposit refund to their original payment method.
What happens if you cancel your contract at the University of Waterloo?
Canadian citizens and permanent residents who accepted their contract on/after July 22 who cancel before arriving on campus will not receive the housing deposit refund but are eligible for a one-time $500 rebooking credit if they move into residence in a future academic term in 2022.

Ensure you are fees arranged for your tuition and program fees by the August 24 deadline, and check back after September 1 to pay your residence fees.
