Unlike some neighboring peaks, Mount Adams does not have a completed trail around the mountain. Instead, you have the option of combining three trails – Round the Mountain Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Highline Trail – to hike 3/4 of the way around the mountain on beautiful, straightforward, and safe trails.

Mount Adams lies in the middle of the Mount Adams volcanic field—a 1,250 km2 (about 500 mi2) area comprising at least 120, mostly basaltic volcanoes that form spatter and scoria cones, shield volcanoes, and some extensive lava flows. The volcanic field has been active for at least the past one million years.

What do you need to climb Mount Adams south?

The South Climb (or Lunch Counter Approach) of Mount Adams is the one that requires the least amount of technical expertise. However, ice axes, trekking poles, and crampons or microspikes (depending on the season) are required to summit.
Is there a winter route to Mt Adams?
Note: If you reach the ridge and the cornices or snow conditions do not seem surmountable, there is a Winter Route that ascends via the South Butte and is safer. Once on the ridge, you follow it up until you reach the wide snowfield that takes you up to Lunch Counter.
