Is MDPI com legitimate?
MDPI journals fall short compared to PLOS but they are respectable and are building their reputation. Charges are proportional to the journal reputation and most times can be waived if the author makes its case of lack of funding and it is completely independent of the review process.
Should I publish in MDPI?
It is a fine place to publish according to my opinion (at least the above mentioned journals) even if maybe not the best. Currently, I am having good experience with MDPI, some of their journals are highly indexed and in fact have high impact factors.
