What is a weejun?
Featuring a signature strip of leather stitched across the saddle of the shoe, these penny loafers harkened back to traditional shoes worn by Norwegian fishermen, hence the name “Weejuns.”
Should you size down in weejuns?
Straight out of the box, my Weejuns felt comfortable and required no breaking in at all, which was convenient and impressive, as leather materials often take a while to stretch and mold to your feet. I usually wear a size 11.5 in most shoes, but the rule of thumb is to order a half size down, so I got an 11.
Should I size down in loafers?
As a general rule, you’ll need to size down when wearing loafers as opposed to oxfords and derby shoes because loafers are thinner and fit more closely to your foot. Calf leather is a bit thicker and firmer than suede, so your suede loafer may be the smallest size footwear you own, a half size lower than a lace-up.
Can you wear weejuns in the rain?
Although Bass Weejuns still look stylish when worn in winter, heed the care advice and avoid wearing them in wet or snowy weather, as this can damage the shoes, particularly the leather soled styles.

How loafers should fit?
Q: How should a loafer fit? A: loafers, like our beefroll penny loafers, are always going to fit more loosely than tie shoes. Loafers are meant to slip on and off of the feet easily, so slippage in the heel is almost unavoidable. However, your heels should not come completely out of the shoes with every step.
Why are they called weejuns?
They were originally called “Weejuns” which is short for Norwegian – as Norway is the country where the style originated. The penny loafer’s signature leather strap with an eye-shaped slit was the perfect place to store your two cents for making calls using public phones. Hence the name penny loafer!
