Why are Weck jars so expensive?
1: Expense: The biggest downside is that they’re very expensive. They’re much more expensive than our standard jars and part of the reason for that is because they’re imported from Europe. 2: Clips After Opening: Another downside is that once you open your preserves, the lid will just sit on top.

Are Weck jars non toxic?
Yes. When tested with an XRF instrument this newer (2014) Weck canning jar tested positive for 142 ppm Lead. For context: the amount of Lead that is considered unsafe in an item intended for children is anything 90 ppm lead or higher in the paint glaze or coating or anything 100 ppm or higher in the substrate.

In Europe, (or at least Germany) the most common form of home canning is in Weck Jars. These jars use glass lids so that nothing touches your food except glass. The rubber seals are reusable. The seals are a thick soft rubber and are reusable, so we do not have an annual cost of purchasing lids over and over again.
Can Weck jars go in microwave?
Whether using for canning or for storing foods safely, Weck glass jars are a terrific choice.
