Why does my caravan fridge not work on gas?
First, it could be down to the thermocouple, which regulates how much gas is in the fridge’s burner at any time. If this component fails, it’s time to replace it. If replacing the thermocouple doesn’t fix the issue, perhaps your pilot light’s gas line has too much air in it.

Firstly the 12 volt will only work when connected to a car with it’s engine running. It will not work at any other time. It’s for when you’re travelling and gas would be dangerous and you have no mains connection. As Graham says, fridges do use 12V power via the battery circuit to run the control panel but not the cooling system.
