How to bend the moldings? Water or steam will allow most wood to bend, and is especially effective with oak. One simple rig is simply to take a large PVC drain pipe, block off on end and then either stand it up or lean it on an angle that will allow you to fill it with water and then slide in the molding.
Can you steam bend oak?
Bent pieces of wood are carried to our on-site drying room to be kept at a consistent warm temperature for a minimum of 48 hours. You can only steam bend oak wood.

It’s a good idea to glue the corners or mitre cuts together for extra support. Once the oak skirting board is in place, apply some caulk along the top edge of the skirting (in between the wall and skirting). Sometimes a small gap is visible at the top of the skirting and the wall.

Use a water-based stain such as Manns Classic Pine Stain for softwood skirting boards such as pine or Manns Classic Oak Stain for hardwood skirting boards such as oak. Alternatively, use a solvent-based stain such as Manns Trade Light Fast Wood Stain or Morrells Light Fast Wood Stain if preferred.
