Early Signs of Giftedness Include:
- Unusual alertness in infancy.
- Less need for sleep in infancy.
- Long attention span.
- High activity level.
- Smiling or recognizing caretakers early.
- Intense reactions to noise, pain, frustration.
- Advanced progression through the developmental milestones.
- Extraordinary memory.
What does it mean if you are gifted?
By definition, people who are gifted have above-average intelligence and/or superior talent for something, such as music, art, or math. Most public-school programs for the gifted select children who have superior intellectual skills and academic aptitude.

Gifted people form deep attachments and react to the feeling tone of situations; they think with their feelings. People who are highly sensitive make commitments to other people and to social causes.
Why do gifted students fail?
A young, curious student may easily become turned off if the educational environment is not stimulating; class placement and teaching approaches are inappropriate; the child experiences ineffective teachers; or assignments are consistently too difficult or too easy.
