What do greenfinch look like?
Greenfinches are about the size of house sparrows. Males are dull-olive green with greenish-yellow on the breast and rump, and have bright yellow wing flashes. Females are duller in appearance, with less yellow in their plumage. Juveniles are paler overall, and have streaked plumage.
Where do chaffinches nest?
Chaffinches build their compact cup-shaped nests in the forks of trees or hedges, and once complete, they will have one brood of around 4-5 eggs, which will be incubated for 11-13 days by the female. Once the young have hatched, they fledge and leave the nest after a further 13-14 days.
Do Greenfinches use nest boxes?
Because of their beautiful song and bright gold coloration, goldfinches are often called wild or backyard canaries. Will goldfinches use birdhouses?
Since goldfinches are not cavity nesters, they are less likely to use a birdhouse than, for example, a woodpecker. However, you can try to entice these finches to nest in your yard with a proper size birdhouse.
