Welcome to Cardrona Alpine Resort, New Zealand’s ultimate mountain playground! Founded in 1980, Cardrona is now open for both winter skiing & snowboarding, as well as a range of summer activities.
When did Cardrona open?
Cardrona Alpine Resort was founded by Cardrona Valley locals John and Mary Lee. It opened for its first winter in 1980. There was so much snow in the first winter that the mountain was only able to open for 3 weeks, around many days of clearing the resort road with a bulldozer.
How long is Cardrona open?
approximately 19 weeks
Cardrona is open for approximately 19 weeks through the winter season (June – October) and approximately 16 weeks through the summer season (December – March). Most staff start paid training the week prior to opening day & generally finish at the end of the operational season.

Is Cardrona open in summer?
We are open for summer 2021/22 from December 10th, 2021-April 3rd 2022. Cardrona’s opening hours are 10am-4pm during the regular season and 10am-6pm during extended play, (December 26th – January 17th). Open until 8pm every Friday throughout the season!

Opening Dates & Hours We’re planning to open Cardrona from June 26 till October 18, and Treble Cone from June 27 till September 6. The plan is to have both mountains open 7 days a week (weather-dependent). Cardrona’s opening hours will stay as normal – 8.30am to 4pm daily.

Does Cardrona do night skiing?
Last year Cardrona lifted the curtain on one of New Zealand’s most iconic mountains, giving visitors a rare glimpse into the hive of activity that can only happen when the crowds have gone home to bed. You can even stay the night on the mountain in the apartments.
