What is Selexid prescribed for?
Selexid is used to treat: • Infections of the bladder or tubes leading from the kidneys (urinary tract infections). Infections caused by a bacteria called Salmonella (salmonellosis). You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after completing your prescribed course of Selexid.

What are the side effects of Selexid?
Selexid side effects Selexid most often causes nausea, diarrhoea, and vaginal infection. It may also cause vomiting, stomach ache, indigestion, bloody diarrhoea, ulcers in the mouth or gullet, inflammation of the gullet, bruising, headaches, dizziness, muscle weakness, fatigue, and skin rash, hives and itching.
How quickly does Selexid work?
Peak serum levels of mecillinam averaging 5 microgram/ml are reached after 1 hour following a dose of 10 mg/kg body weight in children and 400 mg in adults. The serum half-life is 1.2 hours.

Swallow the tablets whole – do not chew or crush the tablets. Have plenty to drink as you take the tablets (at least half a glassful), and make sure you are sitting or standing upright so that the tablets don’t become stuck in your throat and cause irritation and/or ulcers.
