What is Lands End in SF?
The northwest corner of San Francisco is a rugged stretch of Cypress forest, bordered by cliffs plunging 200 feet to the sea below. Lands End guards the narrow ocean channel leading to the Golden Gate Bridge and the entrance to San Francisco Bay.
Why is it called Lands End San Francisco?
The Spanish named Lands End’s westernmost promontory “Point Lobos,” for the many lobos marinos (sea wolves, a.k.a. sea lions) that once hauled up on the rocks offshore. With views of shipwrecks of old and access to the ruins of Sutro baths, Lands End is a site of some of San Francisco’s special memories.
Is Lands End hike hard?
The Lands End hike is not very difficult. There are some ups and downs, which you will need to be prepared for, but the trail isn’t technical. The section between the Lincoln Hwy parking area and the Labyrinth is narrow and cliffy, so take care there.
