Many newer vehicles have two stages built into how the vehicle responds to you hitting the lock button. On all of my current vehicles hitting the lock button once only locks the vehicle. However, if you hit the button twice it locks the vehicle AND arms the alarm, which is confirmed by the horn beeping.
