It was opened in 2002 after completion in 2001 by Forrest Richardson. Of note is the fact that the course was built as part of a major reclamation project involving the former site of a uranium mine and mill, dismantled in the 1960s by the United States Department of Energy.

Is Lake Ariel open to the public?
The lake is around 13 miles in length and about 60 feet at its maximum depth. It is operated as an auxiliary electric generating facility, but it is open to the public for recreation purposes like fishing, boating, waterskiing, camping, hiking, wildlife viewing and nature study.
