Does Jiu Jitsu have Katas?
The martial art of Jiu Jitsu dates back to around 15th century Japan. Most classical JJJ practitioners today focus on protecting and preserving the history and precision of their art and therefore have no interest in adapting their techniques, kata or methods.
What do Katas do?
Kata practice also develops fighting spirit and fighting rhythms. It simulates an actual fighting situation because it allows the practitioner to feel and experience the coordinated movements at full speed and full power without having to “pull” the technique to avoid injuring one’s training partner.
