What is purevax?
Overview. Purevax Rabies is a veterinary vaccine used to protect cats from 12 weeks of age against rabies infection. It contains rabies recombinant canarypox virus (vCP65).

Injection-site sarcomas (ISS) are also referred to as fibrosarcomas. They are mesenchymal tumors that are locally invasive and have a low to moderate chance of spreading to other sites (metastases). These tumors develop in areas where cats have received injections, mainly vaccines.

Is purevax safe?
Our hospital carries the Merial PUREVAX Rabies vaccine to protect cats against the Rabies virus. This vaccination has been shown to be the safest Rabies vaccination on the market for cats.
What does non adjuvanted mean?
The risk of vaccine site sarcoma is almost completely eliminated by the use of non-adjuvanted vaccines. These vaccines are specially formulated to eliminate the need for an adjuvant. Therefore, they allow for safe inoculations with little to no risk of tumor formation.
What is feline sarcoma?
An injection-site sarcoma is a tumor of the connective tissues in the cat. The most common cell type affected is the fibroblast, giving the tumor the name fibrosarcoma. Other tumor types have been described (osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma).

High-grade tumors will metastasize in ~25% of cats. These tumors often grow slowly and grow passively along tissue planes. STS are often first noted as a lump by the owners that often grow slowly over time.
