I’d tackle the plugs before worrying about the t-belt. The t-belt maintenance is strictly related to mileage only since the under hood temps will be roughly the same in all environments outside of extreme desert climates. What happens when the belt fails on a Honda Pilot?
Internally, the belt is reinforced with Kevlar aramid fiber, and you don’t get to see the fiber failure until the belt fail catastrophically. The fiber weakens, there’s more stretch than the tensioner can handle, the belt “walks up” on a sprocket, and it suddenly needs to be a lot longer to go around the sprocket.
How much does it cost to change timing belt?
The timing belt tensioner was already leaking by that point, so it probably would have been wise to actually follow the manual in my case. And $1500 is nuts, even a Honda dealer should be able to do the timing belt and water pump for less than $1000.
