How can I get special consideration in exams?
Once you have supporting documents, you can apply for Special Consideration online through your myUNSW account.
- Login to the Special Consideration portal on myUNSW (My Student Profile -> Special Consideration)
- Click New Application and complete the Student Declaration.
What is a special consideration?
Special consideration is the process by which an examiner takes extenuating circumstances into consideration during the marking of an assessment item. Extenuating circumstances are defined as circumstances that were unpredictable and unavoidable.
How do I apply for deferred exam UWA?
For information on Special Consideration, and applying for a deferred exam, check out the information on the Special Consideration website and complete the online application. Your application must be submitted no later than three working days after the date of the relevant scheduled examination.
How do I submit special consideration UWA?
All requests for Special Consideration and for withdrawal from a unit are to be submitted using the online application system. Make sure you have your supporting documents readily available for upload. Form-based requests for special consideration will no longer be accepted.
How many marks do you get for special consideration?
Special consideration may result in a relatively minor adjustment to the mark of the candidate, of up to five per cent of the maximum mark for the question paper. The size of the adjustment will depend on the candidate’s circumstances during the examination and will reflect the difficulty faced by the candidate.
How is special consideration typically granted?
Special consideration is given by applying an allowance of additional marks to the individual examination/assessment affected. It is NOT applied to the final grade submitted to the exam boards. The size of the allowance depends on the timing, nature and extent of the illness or misfortune.
What happens if you miss a deferred exam?
If you have extenuating circumstances and are unable to sit your approved deferred exam at the scheduled exam time, you may be eligible to apply for an Alternate Examination.
Can you defer a deferred exam UWA?
What if I missed my deferred exam? In general, the University does not defer an exam that has already been deferred. In this situation, your option would be to apply for withdrawal from the unit through special consideration.

Faculties routinely check the authenticity of medical documents with medical practices, so what may seem like a harmless way to gain special consideration may find you suspended for a semester or two, or even at risk of being kicked out of Uni.
