Is Towan beach good for surfing?

Wave quality: 5/10 *Towan beach is especially suitable for beginner surfers. Great for those first times ‘outback’.

Yes, it’s at the bottom of a sloping hill but wheelchairs and buggies love it and being nestled between the harbour and Great Western Beach, it is lovely and sheltered.
Are dogs allowed on Towan beach?
Towan Beach is at the heart of Newquay, one of the liveliest resorts in Cornwall, at the bottom of a steeply sloping hill. Sand chairs are provided by Cornwall Mobility in partnership with Disability Cornwall and Isles of Scilly. Dogs allowed all year round.

Can you surf Towan at high tide?
It is unsurfable until at least 2 hours after high tide! The water is up against the Aquarium wall and then affected by the nearby cliffs. Once it drops past there, it’s perfect for less able surfers as it softens any big swell considerably.
Why are waves bigger in Cornwall?
In the UK and especially in Newquay, Cornwall we have a long continental shelf. This means the ocean bed is flat and continues quite far out before dropping off. If we then compare Newquay to Hawaii, Hawaii has a short continenal shelf which makes the waves a lot more high impact, which form very close to shore.

Does Towan Beach have toilets?
Facilities are limited to toilets only. Dogs are permitted on the beach all year.
Can you have BBQ on Fistral Beach?
Sadly BBQs are not permitted at Fistral Beach. There are signs on the walk to and at the beach that state this as one of the beach’s rules.
