Is a Stroboscopy painful?
The test can be a little uncomfortable; however, it is not painful for most patients. In some cases, additional procedures, such as vocal fold injections or endoscopic excision of nodules, may be performed at the same time as stroboscopy.

What does a Videostroboscopy look for?
Uses of Videostroboscopy To visualize your vocal cords. To evaluate the function of the vocal cords and voice box. To evaluate or detect vocal cord lesions and other irregularities like inflammation, scar tissue or muscle tension conditions. To assess swallowing issues, which could be caused by muscle abnormalities.
Are you awake during a laryngoscopy?
You are awake for the procedure. Numbing medicine will be sprayed in your nose. This procedure typically takes less than 1 minute. Laryngoscopy using strobe light can also be done.
Are you put to sleep for a laryngoscopy?
Direct laryngoscopy can take up to 45 minutes. You’ll be given what’s called general anesthesia, so that you will not be awake during the procedure. Your doctor can take out any growths in your throat or take a sample of something that might need to be checked more closely.
Can a GP look down your throat?
Your GP will examine your throat and ears. They may also feel the lymph nodes (glands) in your neck and under your arms. After your examination, your doctor might need to refer you to hospital for tests and x-rays. Or they might refer you directly to a specialist.
