Can you clean GORE-TEX?
Machine wash on a warm permanent press cycle (105°F/40°C) using a small amount of liquid detergent. Rinse twice, and minimize spinning to reduce creasing. Don’t use powder detergents, fabric softeners, stain removers, or bleach. Don’t wash with heavily soiled clothing.
How do you wash and reproof GORE-TEX?
Here’s how to reproof a waterproof jacket. Wash your jacket as above, but before you place it in the tumble dryer, use GORE-TEX waterproof treatment. The most common types are a waterproof spray or a wash in waterproofer. Apply the GORE-TEX waterproof treatment and then put the jacket in the dryer for 20 minutes.
How do you restore GORE-TEX waterproofing?

- Machine washing then drying your garment is the most effective way to restore the water repellency of your jackets and other outwear.
- Once it’s dry, tumble dry your garment for a further 20 minutes—this will reactivate the durable water-repellent (DWR) treatment.
How do you get stains out of GORE-TEX?
We do not recommend stain removers. Instead, we recommend using liquid detergent locally on the stained areas or in the pre-wash cycle of your washing machine to remove stains and heavy soil. If your machine does not have a pre-wash cycle, simply soak the garment in warm water with liquid detergent.
Does GORE-TEX need Reproofing?
Waterproofing a Gore-Tex Jacket will eventually be required because despite the inner layer being a breathable waterproof membrane, the outer layer (shell) of the jacket will lose its waterproofing, soak up water and stay wet, blocking the effect of the Gore Tex.
How often should you wash GORE-TEX?
There is always a difference of opinion when it comes to washing GORE-TEX®; just like washing down jackets. Regardless of opinion, routine care of your GORE-TEX® jacket or pants is the key to keeping your gear performing at its best. We recommend care every 10-12 days of heavy activity.
Does DWR spray work?
The simple answer is no. DWR is a surface treatment and does not impact the performance of the waterproof membrane. Both properties are separate, meaning when the DWR wears off, a waterproof jacket is still waterproof. Waterproof ratings are determined without considering DWR.

Eventually, with regular laundering and exposure to the elements, DWR treatments can wear off. When this occurs, water no longer beads on the surface of the fabric, and the fabric may absorb some water. (The Gore-Tex barrier beneath the outer fabric, however, will still stop this moisture from getting to your skin.)
What kind of washer do you use for Goretex?
Dry cleaning will strip the oil from the down feathers, causing them to lose loft and warmth. Machine wash in cold water with a mild powder detergent. Gore recommends using a front-loading washer. Tumble dry, on low heat.
Why is my Goretex raincoat wet on the outside?
Performance problems caused by worn DWR coatings are often mistaken for GORE-TEX fabric failures. This happens because, when DWR coatings wear off, GORE-TEX layers may: Appear wet on the outside—because the outer fabric may absorb some water. Feel heavier—again, due to water absorption.
