I know that you are supposed to empty oil from new compressor and re-add the remaining oil plus what you drained out. My new compressor is dry, so there is none to drain. I am reading that you also install some of the oil into the dryer. There is a Youtube video that documents this as well.

The dryer cannot be drained of oil, so you have to make an assumption that 2 ounces are held in side the dryer. 2 ounces + 3 ounce from old compressor plus 2 ounces from dryer is 5 ounces that need to be in the replacement compressor.
