What does it mean when your airbags wont turn off?

You may know that your airbag light won’t turn off, from your car. Your vehicle will tell you with either a flashing or illuminating light on your computer or dashboard display. When the light is on, this means that your airbags are deactivated. This further means that your airbags will not deploy should they need to.

If the seat is vacant, this light should be on. When the seat is occupied it should turn off implying that the airbag system is online and functioning. If the light is off when the seat is vacant or vice-versa, there could be a problem with the sensor.

It is not as safe to drive with the airbag light on. The airbag system has saved countless lives since its invention. If you do drive with your Sportage’s airbag light on, you are relying solely on the safety belts to keep you safe, which is not as safe.

What to do if your airbag light has gone away?

Reset the airbag light and make sure that it disappeared from the dashboard. If it is still there – reread the codes and check for any trouble codes. Restart your car & test-drive. If the airbag light seems to have gone away from your dashboard – restart your ignition and go for a test drive.
