What is hyaluronidase used for?
Hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid, has long been used to increase the absorption of drugs into tissue and to reduce tissue damage in cases of extravasation of a drug.
What is wydase made from?
Hyaluronidase (Wydase®) is a medical preparation of highly purified bovine testicular enzyme. The enzyme hydrolyzes hyaluronic acid, which usually limits diffusion by binding cells together. Thus, it is believed that hyaluronidase increases permeability and promotes the spread of local anesthetic.
How does hyaluronidase work on extravasation?
Optimal management of intravenous extravasations remains controversial. The enzyme hyaluronidase degrades hyaluronic acid, a constituent of the normal interstitial barrier; by degrading interstitial bonds, it can increase the distribution and absorption of locally injected substances.
Is hyaluronidase safe?
With increased popularity of HA fillers, hyaluronidase had become an indispensable tool in dermatology office. It is safe and reliable for treatment of HA-induced complications.
Does pilocarpine cause Miosis?
Pilocarpine will also cause constriction of the pupillary sphincter muscle, resulting in miosis. The allowable daily dose is 30 mg. [5] With excessive dosing, it can propagate a cholinergic crisis.
Does skin sag after dissolving filler?
In our experience, it is extremely unlikely that you’ll notice loosening of your skin as a result of long-term use of dermal fillers. However, if you are concerned, there are other ways to guard against skin loosening.
How long after extravasation can you give hyaluronidase?
Table 2. Pharmacologic therapy for extravasation of cytotoxic drugs.3,7,8 | ||
---|---|---|
Etoposide | Apply dry warm compress for 60 minutes every 8 hours for 3 days | Hyaluronidase |
Mechlorethamine | Apply cold compress for 6 to 72 hours following sodium thiosulfate injection or for 20 minutes 4 times/day for 24 to 48 hours | Sodium thiosulfate |
What do you do for extravasation?
If extravasation occurs, the injection should be stopped immediately and the IV tubing disconnected. Avoid applying pressure to the site, and do not flush the line. Leave the original catheter in place, and attempt to aspirate as much of the infiltrated drug as possible.
How expensive is hyaluronidase?
Each round of hyaluronidase costs between $100-$200 for the enzyme injection, depending on how much is needed. It may require more than one session to achieve adequate filler dissolving.
