Though newer bike-sharing services also have GPS trackers on their bikes, Bixi makes do with a rough estimate of how many kilometres each bike travels by calculating the distance between the station where a bike is taken and the station where the bike is returned.

What happens if you get your BIXI bike stolen?
However, you must always ensure the bike’s safety, as it is your responsibility. We therefore recommend returning your BIXI to a station as soon as you are finished riding it. After 24 hours, the bike will be presumed stolen and you could be charged up to $1,000.

Can a bixi card be used instead of an OPUS card?
