Why does the radio turn off when the car is off?
I have a 1999 Ford ranger. Cougar July 6, 2016, 12:25am #2 I’m not sure if the power to the radio is supposed to cut off with the ignition switch or not. If it is then it appears a modification to power has been made or the ignition switch is turning off like it should.

What to do when your radio is off all the time?
One cheap fix would be to put a switch in the power lead to the radio and mount the switch in a convenient location. The power lead is on all the time. If you switch it off, then all the station presets will be lost, as well as the clock, the last station tuned to, and the volume level.
What should I do if my car radio cut out?
With the car radio on, tap on the interior of the door with your fist. If the radio cuts in or out, suspect a loose or crimped wire. There is always a chance that you’re dealing with an internal fault in the head unit, in which case the only way to fix the problem is by replacing your car stereo.
