Can you use spray foam around ductwork?
The ducts should be tested for total duct leakage and any leaks should be sealed. Once these preparations are made, the ducts can be encapsulated in at least 1.5 inches of closed-cell polyurethane spray foam. Encapsulating the ducts in spray foam increases the R-value of the ductwork and reduces air leakage.
How long does it take for duct sealant to dry?
Normally it takes about 12–24 hours to set up and dry. I would wait at least that long before you insulate it (if that’s what you’re doing). If you are wondering if you can turn on the fan before it dries, you can if it’s standard low pressure residential duct system and it has set up for a couple hours.
