How do you pick a dorm at MIT?
Ask if the floors or lounges of the dorm have different sub-cultures (e.g. in East Campus or Simmons), or if the dorm is pretty uniform in culture (e.g. Maseeh). Explore as much as possible within the dorms. Even within East Campus, there are some halls I wouldn’t fit in as well as mine.

Can you choose roommate at MIT?
You will be assigned to a gender inclusive suite or apartment if you indicated that you would prefer a gender inclusive assignment or you request to be placed with a specific roommate who’s gender is different than your own. Gender inclusive assignments cannot be guaranteed.
Is MIT housing first come first serve?
Don’t worry if you need some time to decide! Our application is not first-come, first-served, and there is no priority given to applicants who apply early!
Do you have to stay in a dorm at MIT?
Housing & Residential MIT requires all first year students to live on campus for the duration of their first year at MIT. We do make rare exceptions to this policy, in cases where first year students are married or going to live full-time with their parent/guardian who reside in the Cambridge/Boston area.
Are cars allowed at MIT?
