Do you need carbon with sponge filter?

Do you need carbon with sponge filter?

Sponge filters are perfect without carbon. They never remove what you want it to anyways which is ammonia. You should never have to buy anything. I recommend getting ammonia remover as it removes what you want it too but you don’t need it.

Is a sponge filter better?

Sponge filters work well as a pre-filter on the inlet of a canister filter. The sponge filters out a good deal of the larger particulate matter, which keeps the canister from clogging. It is far easier to clean or replace the sponge pre-filter often, rather than tearing apart the canister filter.

Do bio sponge filters work?

As for how a sponge filter works, well, it’s very clever… With a good air pump attached, bubbles rise up the lift tube and out into your tank. As water passes through the sponge, it catches and traps debris, such as fish poop, uneaten food and decaying plants, filtering it from the water.

Is Purigen better than carbon?

I find it rivals over carbon both in efficiency and lifespan. I was never able to get my water as clear as I can with Purigen, and I don’t have to touch/change it NEARLY as much as carbon. I probably clean/recharge my Purigen only 3 times a year, which also makes it cost effective.

Should I use activated carbon in my aquarium?
