Is there air coming out of the oil fill cap?
So out of curiosity I checked my car and discovered a light flow of air coming from the oil fill cap. My friends car does it much worse and he is also concerned about it. So my question is, do I need to be making plans to buy a new car or is the current motor fine?
Why does my car squeak when I remove the dipstick?
There’s also a vacuum when I remove the dipstick and oil fill cap, whereby if I loosen the oil fill cap but still leave it on the valve cover, there’s noticeable resistance to remove it from the suction. Also, the engine only really makes the squeak when it’s up to temperature and I’ve been driving from some time.
What does positive pressure on oil cap mean?
Positive meaning positive pressure. Put the oil cap back on, and don’t worry about it. Its is OK along as that postive pressure that is created in the combustion chamber and blows by the rings (hence its name “blowby)is not excessive. The PCV valve uses engine vacuum to scavange the cranckcase.
What happens when you remove the oil dipstick?
While looking about the engine while it was running and squeaking, I noticed that if I removed the oil dipstick or fill cap, the squeak would cease completely, but the engine would stumble and idle really rough but then recover somewhat.

Do You Put your hand over the oil fill cap?
Placing your hand over the oil fill cap is not a great way to measure blow-by, and determine an engine’s condition. You and your friends cars have a lot of life left in them, most likely.

Why does air come out of the oil filler cap?
However, it’s normal practice for modern engines to be installed with a breather system that connects the crank case to the air intake so that the breather gases are sucked back into the engine and burnt, and on these engines if you release the oil filler cap while the engine is idling you should find air being sucked in rather than blown out.

Is it bad to clean the oil cap?
Use caution when cleaning an engine. Use low pressure and be careful not to spray directly at your seals or inlets like the oil cap, power steering fluid cap, transmission dip stick and air intake. Moisture in these areas can do more harm than good. Dirt on the outside of an engine does far less harm than moisture in the engine.
