Saluki Welfare exists to facilitate the welfare of the breed and to rescue Salukis which have fallen upon hard times. As well as our rescue activities we aim to provide a support network for breeders and re-homers.
Where can I find Saluki?
You might find a Saluki available from a Dog Rescue group. But not many Salukis are turned over to Rescue groups, because not many people own them in the first place. Salukis may be turned over to Rescue simply because they don’t act like the breeds that people are more familiar with. Salukis are rarely found here.
Are Salukis good with cats?
Salukis can live safely with cats, as long as they’re part of the family. Strange cats may be subject to the chase.
What to know about owning a Saluki?
Salukis are quiet at home, extremely gentle with children, and good with other dogs. They make adequate watchdogs, but miserable protection dogs. Salukis must get a chance to run, and run hard, every day. Given this chance, they are moderately obedient, as long as they happen to want the same thing you want.

Are Saluki dogs expensive?
The Saluki It somewhat resembles a greyhound, but with long, floppy ears and a bushy tail. While nomadic Bedouins frowned on dogs as unclean, they made an exception for the Saluki, giving the breed a reputation for being upper-crust. A Saluki puppy will cost about $2,500.
What do you need to know about Saluki rescue?
For whatever reason, these Salukis no longer have homes of their own. The Salukis adopted from Rescue are normally spayed/neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, heartworm checked (and treated for this disease before offering the dog for adoption), tick disease screened, and temperament checked.

How does the Saluki Club of America work?
The Saluki Club of America does not operate adoptions from this website. Instead we support rescue by assigning a Rescue Liaison who maintains and updates a network of contacts across the country to aid in the re-homing of the Salukis who are lost or abandoned each year.
How old do Salukis usually get to be?
They range mostly from young adults to 8 years of age, well past the chewing and nipping puppy stage. All carry some emotional/behavioral baggage, but with a little training the typical Rescue Saluki becomes a well-mannered loving pet.
