What happens if I overfill my transmission a little bit?

What happens if I overfill my transmission a little bit?

Transmission Fluid Leakage: Adding too much fluid will cause high pressure inside of your transmission. This is very bad and could cause your transmission to start leaking fluid everywhere. This can cause wear and tear on your transmission and damage the system in the long run.

How does a drain and fill work on a transmission?

With a drain and fill, you are only removing about half of the fluid from the transmission via the drain bolt, replacing it, and then adding the same amount of new fluid that came out. Then, drive the car for a day or two, drain the fluid again, and replace with new fluid.

How often should you drain and fill your transmission filter?

Drain and fill every 30k. Yes there’s some old fluid left, but at 30k it should still be in good shape. Change the filter if it has one. I would get the drain and refill. As long as you do it on schedule, that should be all your transmission needs.

How much fluid do you need for a drain and fill?

Automatic Transmission Fluid (Research what kind your vehicle requires, my 98 V70R used DEX-III type fluid, 5spd units require ATF 3309). You will need about 7 quarts to do two drain and fills as I did. Begin by supporting the car with your jack and jack stands safely or getting your car up onto ramps.

Do you get the drain and refill or transmission flush?

I would get the drain and refill. As long as you do it on schedule, that should be all your transmission needs. Transmission flushes are for those who neglect their transmissions, those with OCD, and people with extra money burning a hole in their pockets. missileman July 6, 2016, 1:33am #4 Here is another vote for drain and refill.

How much fluid does a drain / fill take?

The manual says a drain / fill takes 3.7qts, well mine drained a tad over 4qts. I put in all 4 qts I had and am still a touch low, so I’m goign to get more fluid monday and get it right. The dealer wanted over $100 to do this, well I paid $42.63 in supplies and did it myself.
