Why is it called St Pancras?
It was a small village with a church and burial grounds. The parish was named after Saint Pancras, a 14-year-old boy who had converted to Christianity and would not renounce his faith. As a result, he was beheaded by Diocletian in Rome in 304AD. St Pancras is a Greek name meaning ‘the one that holds everything’.
When did St Pancras station open for Eurostar?
Dating from 1868, London’s magnificent St Pancras station was beautifully restored and reopened on 14 November 2007 to become the London terminal for Eurostar trains to Paris and Brussels, taking over from Waterloo which had been Eurostar’s London terminal since it started in 1994.
