Why does my Honda Shadow hesitate during acceleration?
Only happens during acceleration. When I open up the throttle it hesitates then all of the sudden the engine responds. It seems to be worse in the lower gears (1 & 2) and lessens in the higher gears. The warmer the bike, the less issue, but even when warm and run a while it still exhibits this problem.
Why does my Honda Accord hesitate when accelerating?
There are other problems where the vehicle hesitates upon acceleration that may have nothing to do with the ATF, but if you are having problems similar to those described here, this may be your solution. I detail the procedure below.
What should I do if my Honda engine is hesitating?
Let the engine cool. Remove the hose between the air box and the front of the throttle body. Apply a small amount of brake/carburetor cleaner to a rag, and remove the grease, dirt, or oil from around the intake valve. Check for proper throttle movement and operation. Then, re-assemble. The cost for a throttle body cleaner is $4. Figure 2.
Is it OK to hesitate in 1st and 2nd gears?
Q: car hesitation in 1st and 2nd gears , its totally fine in higher gears . hesitation means light jerks , what’s the issue?

What causes a car to hesitate when accelerating?
Fuel Pump: The fuel pump in most modern vehicles sits inside the fuel tank and pumps fuel up to the engine. If a fuel pump cannot provide the correct pressure, fuel may have difficulty making it to the engine. A vehicle that hesitates while accelerating or while driving up a hill may have a weak fuel pump.
Why is my Honda engine not producing a spark?
Corrosion at the spark plug terminals may cause them to not produce a spark, or cause the engine to misfire. In addition, any faults in the ignition coil or distributor may cause the same issues. Follow these steps to diagnose your engine’s spark:

What to do when your Honda Shadow loses power?
You can put a piuece of hose on that nipple and turn the screw out about 3 turns. That’s the drain. Use the hose to direct the draining fuel into a suitable container and then re-tighten (gently until it seats) the drain screw. That ought to do it!

Why does my motorcycle keep bogging on acceleration?
Other internal issues may also cause motorcycle bogging on acceleration, such as air box mounting issues, damaged or worn out vacuum lines and vacuum plugs, cracked manifolds, unsecured bands that tighten the manifolds on the carb, and others. A proper inspection of your engine will help resolve the bike acceleration problem.
Why does my Honda Accord slow down at low rpm?
If you have an issue with sluggishness at low RPMs or a strange, hunting idle, the answer might be more simple than you think. A few simple fixes suitable for the novice mechanics might be enough to rid your Honda Civic or Accord of that annoying low-RPM hesitations forever.
When did my Honda Shadow Ace 750 die?
Shadow Ace died while running…no power no nothing. Discussion in ‘ Mechanical & Technical ‘ started by Northwestgrizzly, Jul 19, 2012 . I have a 98 Honda Shadow Ace 750 and I pulled out of the bank drive through yesterday. It made a small “pop” sound and promptly died.
What kind of fuel does a Honda Shadow use?
A lot of the sport bikes and air-cooled bikes require higher octane fuel because of the higher combustion chamber temperature, higher compression, and advanced ignition timing. Your Shadow’s engine is a liquid-cooled, low-revving, low compression engine.

At the bottom of the carb (each one) you’ll find a small nipple that sticks out, and above that is a screw. You can put a piuece of hose on that nipple and turn the screw out about 3 turns. That’s the drain. Use the hose to direct the draining fuel into a suitable container and then re-tighten (gently until it seats) the drain screw.
What causes a motorcycle to lose power when accelerating?
A motorcycle can lose power when accelerating because of plugged jets in the carbs, a broken carb spring, a vacuum leak, a carb spring that’s on backwards, extra slack in the throttle cable, and poor timing advance. See my article here for more information. link to Is a Motorcycle Cheaper Than a Car?
Why does my motorcycle throttle not spring back?
If you’ve gone through all the previous steps of cleaning everything that has to do with your throttle but you’re having issues with the throttle not springing back, your likely culprit is a loose throttle cable (a problem that won’t be fixed by cleaning it). Tightening a loose throttle cable is easily fixable.
How to change the accelerator pedal release position?
Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning Procedure. Make sure that the accelerator pedal is fully released. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
What does it mean when your car won’t accelerate?
Car accelerates, but won’t exceed a relatively low speed, or shift up This is another failure mode of the TPS, which indicates that it is falsely limiting the power being requested with your accelerator pedal foot. You may find that your car will accelerate, but not beyond a speed of 20 – 30 MPH.
Why is my bike engine bogging under acceleration?
If the bike does not idle smoothly or takes a long time to settle back down to idle speed, and you’ve already cleaned the carburetor, you may have an airleak. Airleaks can be caused by a bad seal in the engine, or in the intake/carburetor joints.

Why is my motorcycle not accelerating at high speeds?
More firing is performed at higher speeds whereas slower speeds have less firing. The engine timing is the mechanism that controls this. If you have poor timing advance, spark plug firing becomes delayed and isn’t timed right which will cause your motorcycle to not accelerate properly. This will probably be accompanied with some backfiring.
Why is my Honda Rebel 250 losing power?
I ride a Honda Rebel 250 motorcycle and over the past few days I find that the bike is losing power when accelerating fast. When I twist the throttle to accelerate quickly (in any gear) I hear the engine sound increasing in pitch by a lot more than I’m used to hearing, but the motorcycle doesn’t seem to respond and performance is very poor.
What does it mean when your motorcycle bogs on acceleration?
If your motorcycle is bogging on acceleration, you’re not alone. In fact, the ‘bog’ problem is not new. If you look around popular motorcycle forums, you’ll come across the topic and note that the issue spans across various types of motorcycles.
Why is my motorcycle losing power at high speeds?
If you have a fuel injected bike with acceleration problems, your likely culprit is poor timing advance. The faster you go on a motorcycle, the sooner your ignition coil will tell the spark plugs to fire. More firing is performed at higher speeds whereas slower speeds have less firing. The engine timing is the mechanism that controls this.
Why does my bike only go 30 mph?
On the same stretches of flat road where my bike easily did 40 mph with a specific higher RPM sound, it now goes 30 with a lower engine RPM. Climbing hills that I used to take easily at 30mph, I now do at 20 mph. My bike sat for only a week from the time the belt broke to the time I put the new one on.
What are the symptoms of a bad accelerator pedal?
Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Throttle/Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor. Common signs of a faulty pedal position sensor include inconsistent engine response, reduced fuel efficiency, and the Check Engine Light coming on. The days of having to constantly adjust the throttle cable due to a loose nut on the carburetor are long gone.
When does power come back on during acceleration?
The power comes back and then off again cycling every second or so during low rpm. Only happens during acceleration. When I open up the throttle it hesitates then all of the sudden the engine responds. It seems to be worse in the lower gears (1 & 2) and lessens in the higher gears.
What to do about power loss during acceleration?
Sometimes “gunk” gets into the bottom and is hard to get out any other way. 2) Then put in fresh gas with the proper amount of Berrymans B12 Chemtool. It is probably the best “on the engine” cleaner on the market. Might want to do 1/2 tank of gas and the recommended amount of B12 for a whole tank. Run for a while and then fill the tank up.
