Is a cares harness required?
The CARES harness is FAA approved, and all airlines based in the United States are required to permit its use as long as you’ve purchased a ticket for your child and they’re within the size requirements (or have written approval from the FAA to use it beyond the size requirements for passengers with special needs).
How does the cares harness work?
It’s made of seat belt material and a few buckles that work in a manner similar to a five point harness in a car seat. To install it, you have to lower the tray table of the seat behind you, loop it over the seat, and tighten. The airplane seat belt loops through the harness and works as part of the system.
Is cares harness FAA approved?

CARES fits on virtually all Economy, Business, and First Class seats. The CARES red loop will extend to a circumference of up to 62 inches. If you will be flying on an airline with extra large seats or a sleeper seat, you may want to check with the airline to see if CARES will fit.

Is my car seat FAA approved?
Does it have an FAA Approved Car Seats Sticker – FAA approved infant car seats, and FAA approved toddler car seats MUST have a sticker affixed to them that reads “This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft”. Ground staff and a flight attendant may check for this when you are boarding.
