Why is the radiator on my Honda Civic overheating?
If the hose goes from cold, to a bit warmer to a bit warmer to a bit warmer than the thermostat isn’t working correctly. For your testing focus on the radiator, not the heater core. The coolant always runs thru the heater core, there is no coolant control system there. I would check the water pump, it sounds like the blades may have corroded away.
How do you test a Honda Civic radiator?
Its a pretty simple test. Start with cold car. Place it in Park, start engine. Hold on to the top radiator hose. It should start cold. After a few (10? 15?) minutes, the hose should jump from cold to hot. The thermostat acts like a switch, it either open or its closed.
Why does Honda Civic have a small coolant valve?
If both seals work correctly the coolant boils at a much higher temperature, in the range of 240 deg F. This allows for MUCH better heat transfer and allows your car to cool off better. The other thing that small valve does is help the system purge air bubbles from within the top of the engine.
Why is the presotone coming out of my radiator?
The only reason why I’m losing Prestone is because I’m building too much pressure and heat. The Presotone is coming back up and out from my radiator reservoir. Please help me . I’m in general agreement with Ben. Cooling fan not working. The description of high vehicle speed = okay and low speed not means your fan isn’t working for you.

How often should upper radiator hoses be replaced?
One of the managers said the hoses should be replaced every 5 years, but when they really think you should do something, they really recommend it. This hoses thing sounds a bit too preventive right now. The hose that will fail FIRST is the upper radiator hose.
How does the overflow hose in a radiator work?
An overflow hose runs between the radiator cap and the reservoir tank where extra coolant is stored (and added). As pressures within the cooling system change with coolant temperature, a valve in the radiator cap allows coolant to flow back into the reservoir to relieve pressure buildup which naturally occurs.
When to replace radiator cap on Honda Civic?
A radiator cap’s rating varies on the size of the radiator. As Honda does not use the same radiator in all of its Civics, its caps differ. The pressuring rating will be stamped into the cap. If the cap releases the pressure early, replace the radiator cap.
How does the cooling system work on a Honda Civic?
A Honda Civic’s cooling system is a sealed system, meaning that it uses pressure to raise the boiling point of the fluid within the radiator. As the engine operates, the fluid within the radiator circulates throughout the engine.

What causes a cold radiator hose to overheat?
You may finally be forced to purchase a new radiator after performing this leak repairs. A cold lower radiator hose will cause an overheating problem. The cause of this varies with the main culprits being a leaked hose radiator pipe, a faulty thermostat or hindered coolant circulation.
Why does the coolant leak out of the radiator?
A coolant leak. While driving, the incoming air flow allows the radiator to keep the coolant temperature down. But when the car is driving at low speeds or at a standstill, it’s up to the fan to do that job. If the fan isn’t kicking in, then there a few things that could cause that.
If both seals work correctly the coolant boils at a much higher temperature, in the range of 240 deg F. This allows for MUCH better heat transfer and allows your car to cool off better. The other thing that small valve does is help the system purge air bubbles from within the top of the engine.
What should I do if my radiator is leaking coolant?
You will want to inspect both sides of the problem hose, and determine if the clamp is doing its job. Considering it is the top hose, the coolant is coming from the thermostat and flowing down through the radiator to be cooled.
Why does my Honda engine keep overheating?
July 6, 2016, 5:45am #6 It is correct that if the water pump does not circulate the coolant the engine will overheat and blow coolant into the reservoir and out the overflow. It sounds to me like you’ve done all the tests and checks to eliminate a headgasket problem. The water pump is a real possibility.
What to do if your Honda Civic is overheating?
Keep the cap open and warm up the car to see if the water is flowing properly. Bubbles in the water indicate a head gasket problem. Otherwise, just seal the radiator with a new radiator cap. Radiator of a 2001 Honda Civic. If the car is eating up an excessive amount of coolant than it should be, then it must be going somewhere.

Why is water boiling out of radiator in Honda Civic?
When it is sitting idle and the temperature is in normal operating range, the water is contsantly boiling out. We have bled the system as directed but no luck. When you step on the gas peddle the water will shoot out of the radiator with the cap off. The top hose is hot, the bottom is cool but does not feel like there is any pressure.
