What makes up the shroud on a radiator?
It’s made up of a 1/2-inch thick formed-aluminum shroud and one or multiple electric thin-line fans. Tabs on the side of the shroud attach to the flanges on the radiator side plates with sheet metal screws.
How do you install a air conditioner shroud?
When installing, lower the shroud into engine compartment, lower shroud with fan into engine compartment, screw cooling fan onto coolant pump in a counter-clockwise direction (left handed thread). Once hand tight, use a 32mm wrench and coolant pump holding tool and tighten. Install shroud, be sure it is flush with radiator.

Hole is drilled in the tab without penetrating the flange underneath. Sheet metal is slid under the edge of the radiator flange to protect the core when drilling the mounting holes. Fan and shroud assembly are 2-5/8-inches thick, the same as the clearance between the core and water pump hub.

Lift the clip before pulling the male and female plug housings apart, if your plug is so equipped. Use the blade of a slotted screwdriver to lift the clip if you are unable to pull it up with a finger. The plug carries all electrical connections to the fan.

How do you remove a cooling fan from a BMW E90?
Working at left side of cooling fan shroud, disconnect lock to release cooling fan. Lock is released by pressing tab (green arrow) toward engine firewall. Then pull cooling fan up and remove from engine compartment. Be careful not to snag fan on wires or hoses.
