How often should you change the air filter in your car?
Traditionally, auto mechanics advised drivers to change their car’s air filters every 3,000-6,000 miles. Luckily, modern air filters are designed to perform better and last longer. Your car’s 2 air filters, the cabin air filter and the engine air intake filter, can conceivably last 10,000-30,000 miles under the right driving conditions.
When to remove an idle air control valve?
Because of the nature of this valve (large air volume processed) it should be serviced when a tune up is performed to remove “coking” which will hinder the valve’s performance. To perform a rough check of the idle air control, remove the valve while reconnecting the wiring harness.
Can a dirty air filter cause engine problems?
While a soiled cabin air filter can affect the AC system, a dirty engine air filter can cause engine performance problems. This is understandable, considering your car can use more than 10,000 gallons of oxygen for every gallon of fuel burned.
How can I check the idle air control?
To perform a rough check of the idle air control, remove the valve while reconnecting the wiring harness. While observing the valve with a flashlight, turn the key to the “ON” position, (DO NOT START ENGINE.) the valve should move slightly.
What should I do if my engine oil keeps blowing into the air filter?
Purchase an engine flush formula from your local parts store and follow the directions. In general you will pour the formula into the oil and run the engine for a period of time. Once the engine has been flushed drain the oil and fill it with fresh engine oil. Replace the filter and see if the problem persists.
When do I add oil to my AC system?
One thing I haven’t mentioned yet is putting refrigerant oil in the system. You normally do this when recharging the system after replacing one of the major components. This is tricky. The service manual normally tells you how much refrigerant oil should be added with each major component replaced on the AC system.
How often should I change the air filter on my Ford Escape?
You can replace the filter during a car’s scheduled tune-up (about every three to six months) and save the time and expense of having a mechanic change the filter for you as a separate maintenance job.
How often should I change the oil in my Generator?
The oil and oil filter get changed every year, along with cleaning the spark arrestor. Some years also call for air & fuel filter replacement and coolant system service too. Generator service intervals are based on time or hours they’ve run, but we generally don’t use our generator enough to need service more than once a year.
