Both Somali and Arabic are Afro-asiatic languages but while Arabic is in the Semitic branch of the larger Afro-asiatic language family, Somali is a cushitic language, and is related to other cushitic languages like Oromo and Afar. So they are not mutually intelligible but we have some shared vocabulary.
