When does a Duramax transmission line need to be replaced?
Easiest to notice in cold weather when the rubber hoses constrict, transmission fluid leaks past the crimps on the factory lines. With most cooler lines springing a leak within the first 50,000 miles, many Duramax owners had their lines replaced under warranty—only to have them leak again later.
What to do if your transmission cooler is leaking?
The sound solution for leaking transmission cooler lines is to scrap all the factory hoses in favor of high quality hydraulic hose or braided stainless steel lines, along with threaded fittings as opposed to crimps.
What happens when a Duramax engine goes down?
Not only does this mean game-over for the engine, but it results in a truck that’s down for weeks (if not months) and a huge chunk of change missing from your wallet. The failure is most common in higher horsepower engines, but can still occur in moderately modified and even stock power plants.
Are there any problems with the LLY Duramax?
In terms of LLY injector problems, GM had sorted out the internal failures with the 2004 ½ redesign, but the LLY Duramax would occasionally exhibit a trouble code for the injectors, but in most cases it turned out to be an issue with the injector harness rubbing through and causing a short or open in the wiring.

Those lines don’t have a lot of pressure on them. Thats what the video shows is the pipe flare with hose clamps. Has your friends hose leaked after the fix?
Is there recall on GMC transmission cooler lines?
GM has recalled the trans lines for leaking! I got a letter a bunch of months back for inspection and replacement of the lines. My 06 had leaking at the crimps awhile back. I ended up replacing them using a hydraulic hose setup. Here’s my thread, with the nightmare it was due to choosing the wrong shop at first:
