When to look for an AC clutch switch?
If the switch is not operating correctly, the AC system will not be pressurized correctly and will not work as efficiently in cooling the air. If you notice that the AC is no longer blowing the same cold air as it used to, you may want to consider looking at the switch. 2. No cooling at all
Where is the clutch on an AC system?
It is mounted in the low pressure side of the AC system and its purpose is to detect the flow of refrigerant in the system by measuring the pressure.
Why does my AC clutch cycle on and off?
This switch is designed to make sure that the pressure stays at a consistent level so that the AC can function correctly. As this switch continuously cycles on and off, the AC system operates its electrical contacts which subjects the switch to a high amount of wear.
What happens when you press the a / C switch?
When the A/C switch is pressed, an A/C request message to the ECM. If the ECM determines that conditions are acceptable for A/C operation, it will ground the A/C compressor clutch relay control circuit, which activate the A/C compressor clutch relay. With the relay contacts closed, battery voltage is supplied to the A/C compressor clutch.
Is the a / C CLUTCH request PID showing Yes?
If all the wiring is good and the PCM is not turning on the clutch then check directly at the PCM to see if its grounding the circuit (which it should not be if the wiring is good) If its not sending out a ground then the PCM is bad. Is the A/C clutch request PID showing yes? No.
Why is my a / C not working on my Sonic?
If the ambient sensor isn’t working, it will use the IAT as default. The wiring for the ambient temp sensor was pulled apart in the insulation, only making contact intermittently. After repairing the wiring, the a/c works.
Why does the clutch not engage in a low pressure car?
If the PCM (powertrain control module) senses low pressure in the low pressure fluid line, it will stop the compressor clutch from engaging to prevent any damage. This is because low pressure = low fluid, and r 134a is also oil/lubricant for the compressor and if you don’t have fluid then you will damage the compressor.
