Why is my exhaust making my bumper black?
:screwy: Aftermarket intakes throw more air in your engine, more air means leaner. Black soot is a sign of a rich condition, to much fuel…. Pull your spark plugs they are probally black too. more air, means more fuel, not much on an un-tuned engine, but enough that you could get build up on the exhaust/bumper.
Can your exhaust melt your bumper?
usually the only time you get melting of the bumper is when the exhaust is blowing hot air directly onto an area of the bumper. The radiant heat from the stainless shouldn’t melt the bumper unless it is practically touching.
Is it normal for exhaust pipes to black?
Black deposits in the exhaust system are caused by carbon from unburned fuel. A very small amount of this is normal, as no system is 100% efficient. Heavy soot however indicates a rich condition or misfiring. This could also cause premature failure of your catalytic converter and O2 sensors.
Why is the tip of my exhaust black?
Black exhaust smoke can appear when the vehicle is burning too much fuel. This could be caused by a clogged air filter, malfunctioning fuel injection system, a blocked manifold, or a variety of other issues. Have your vehicle checked out by a technician to see why your vehicle is burning more fuel than usual.

How do you remove exhaust stains on bumper paint?
Glad to hear Scratch-X worked to remove the exhaust staining! Definitely want to apply a coating of wax (Ultimate or NXT are both long lasting) – the Scratch-X would have removed any wax from the “stained” area. Tricks of the Trade!
Why do I have soot stains on my bumper?
The emissions you refer to are basically soot/particulates, which is unburnt fuel. The unburnt fuel molecules attract moisture etc. in the exhaust cycle and grow in size. Due to the airflow around the rear of your car, the particulates impinge themselves on the paint surface.
What’s the best way to get rid of exhaust stains?
Try switching up to a higher octane fuel or a clean fuel (as promoted by Shell) to get a faster ignition rate and flame travel through the fuel (ignition and power stroke of the cycle). This should contribute to a cleaner gas exiting the exhaust tailpipe.
