Who do DonorsChoose items belong to?
The teacher who created the project is the sole steward of the donation while employed at the school, carrying out the project for which the materials were donated. Depending on the resources requested, the teacher may choose to have the project materials shipped to a custom address.
What can you ask for on DonorsChoose?
At DonorsChoose you may ask for a variety of resources that will help your students learn! This can include requests for materials or requests for class trips or class visitors. Requests for materials: Most projects for classroom materials are requested through our vendor directory.
Is DonorsChoose anonymous?
When a donor gives directly to your live project, their name, city, and state will be listed on your project page in the updates towards the bottom of the page. If a donor has opted to remain anonymous, they will be listed as “a donor.”
Can anyone use DonorsChoose?
Your role is eligible to create projects on DonorsChoose if you meet all of the following criteria: You work in an eligible school. Front-line educators and other faculty can include (but aren’t limited to): classroom teachers, subject-area teachers, librarians, therapists, counselors, school nurses, etc.
Is DonorsChoose legit?
DonorsChoose is a United States-based nonprofit organization that allows individuals to donate directly to public school classroom projects. The organization has been given Charity Navigator’s highest rating every year since 2005.
Can you sell DonorsChoose items?
Items from a DonorsChoose project cannot be resold if they are simply sold as-is. Items, except technology, can be sold if students are using the requested items to create something new.
Can you ask for money on DonorsChoose?
You may ask for any resource that will help students learn, but your project must adhere to the following guidelines: All DonorsChoose projects must meet the following criteria: All requested resources must be used by students or directly provide a student experience. How many DonorsChoose projects can I have?
A teacher may have up to 10 projects “in progress” at any given time. A project is considered to be “in progress” from the time you submit it to DonorsChoose until we receive your complete Thank-You Package.
Can non profits use DonorsChoose?
DonorsChoose.org currently does not serve nonprofit schools or district-approved choice schools. We currently only serve schools staffed by district teachers and run by a public school district, and charter schools granted charters through a public entity like a public school district or state Board of Education.
How does DonorsChoose make money?
Fundraising: 4% Unlike other crowdfunding platforms, we generate funding from outside teachers’ personal networks of friends and family, engaging the broader public, foundations, and companies in supporting our public schools.

Can you fund your own DonorsChoose project?
By donating to your own project it shows donors that you really believe in your project and you are serious about getting it funded. It’s perfectly okay to donate the first dollar, that’s all it takes to show your support to your own project. Spread the Word Share you project everywhere!
