What are familial cancers?
(fuh-MIH-lee-ul KAN-ser) Cancer that occurs in families more often than would be expected by chance. These cancers often occur at an early age, and may indicate the presence of a gene mutation that increases the risk of cancer.
Which cancer often runs in families?
For example, breast cancer and ovarian cancer run together in families with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome (HBOC). Colon and endometrial cancers tend to go together in Lynch syndrome (also known as hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer, or HNPCC).
Does carcinoma run in families?

Multiple family members on one side of the family may be diagnosed with the same cancer, but usually the cancer occurs at later ages and does not follow the same patterns that are seen in hereditary cases. Even though familial cancers cluster in a family, the cancer does not seem to be caused by a change in one gene.
How long can you live with BCC?
Advanced BCC is so rare that there is very little information about survival rates. One study of 100 cases of metastatic BCC between 1981 and 2011 showed that median overall survival is 4.5 years. How far the cancer spread made a big difference in survival. For regional metastasis, survival was 7.2 years.

That’s because UV exposure is the primary risk factor for this type of cancer. However, some squamous cell carcinomas develop on the genitals or the inside of the mouth. While squamous cell carcinoma can spread to other parts of the body, it is usually very responsive to treatment.
Can a squamous cell carcinoma be treated with chemotherapy?
If squamous cell carcinoma has spread beyond the initial tumor site, radiation therapy can be effective if the cancer is growing in specific, identifiable sites.
